PRODUCTS retail

MISSION

To establish and operate strategic outlets for safe reliable and profitable retailing of petroleum products nationwide and in international markets.

Background

NNPC Retail commenced operations in August 2002 when it commissioned its first Retail Outlet in Lagos to market petroleum products to the public. This was a strategic move intended to provide NNPC with:

    • the vehicle for intervention in the market during periods of emergency and avoidable supply interruptions.
    • a tool to benchmark the activities of key players in the distribution chain and ensure safe, orderly and profitable retailing of products in the country.
    • outlets for its own products in a deregulated environment on acceptable commercial terms.
    • a vehicle to achieve its world-class vision by integrating its upstream and downstream businesses in a similar manner to other National and International Oil Companies.

    1st QUARTER 2007 PERFORMANCE

During the first quarter 2007, NNPC Retail Network operated with 14 (fourteen) Mega Stations effectively. The un-audited results for the quarter indicate a National Market Share of white products of approximately 5% with a Turnover of N7.8 Billion and a Net Margin of N0.59 Billion. This was generated mainly from the sales of white products (PMS, AGO and DPK), sourced solely from the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC).

    EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE & EXPANSION PLANS

Current expansion plans are guided by the objectives of the on-going NNPC Transformation Project (PACE), to reposition and re-align NNPC for greater competitiveness and profitability. NNPC Retail will engage in Strategic Repositioning, to enable it emerge as one of the three Major Marketers by December 2008, holding a minimum 15% of Nigerian Market Share and significant presence in West and Central African (WCA).

Currently, NNPC Retail has 12 Mega Stations in its Network with a combined sales capacity of 2.0 Million litres of white products per day. Over the next 12 months, NNPC plans to expand the Network to 37 land-based Mega Stations, 15 Standard Stations and 12 water-based Floating Mega Stations in the Niger Delta Region. The first of the Floating Mega Stations christened “MB NEMBE” was commissioned in October 2006 and four (4) others are at various stages of completion.

NNPC Retail is working closely with other key industry players to introduce new haulage tankers with modern safety features to the retail business. This will help to reduce road accidents and incidents of major spillages.
