The new Management Information System (MIS) in NPDC is a computerized data collection and analysis system that allows timely access to service delivery and processed information. It can also be defined as a system using formalized procedures to provide management at all levels with appropriate information, based on data from internal and if desired also external sources, to enable them make timely and effective decisions for planning, directing, and controlling the activities for which they are responsible.
For NPDC, achieving its vision of becoming Nigeria’s premier Exploration and Production Company would be virtually impossible without a system like this in place. Every high performing organization understands the value of having useful information at their fingertips and a system that requires hours and possibly days before accessing information would therefore not be of value to them. The NPDC MIS went live on December 21, 2005.
With the MIS in place, less time and effort will be spent on collating and retrieving information and employees will be freed from mundane report collation/analysis for more value adding work. There will also be consistency of data, due to single centralised data storage.
