2007 Experienced Hires visit Kaduna Refinery

As part of the induction programme for the newly employed experience hire in the NNPC, a tour of the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company KRPC Limited a subsidiary of the NNPC has been organized to acquaint them with the operations of the corporation so that they can settle down as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Speaking at a reception organized for the experienced hire, Managing Director of the KRPC, Engr. Agoro, congratulated them for successfully completing the induction programme adding that there was need for the Group Human Resources Division of the corporation to continue to organize such induction programmes for newly employed personnel.

Presenting an overview of the Nigerian oil and gas industry, the Technical Assistant to the Managing Director of the KRPC, Engr. Mohammed told the experienced hires that at inception, following the merger of the then Nigerian National Oil Company and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the Kaduna Refinery had the capacity to produce 50,000 barrels per stream day.

He said that the Fuels Plant of the refinery has the capacity to produce 120 metric tonnes per day of Liquefied Petroleum Gas; 3,857 metric tonnes per day of Prime Motor Spirit (or Petrol); and 1,686 metric tonnes per day of kerosene.

Other products produced by the fuels plant, he said, are 300 metric tonnes per day of AGO (or diesel); 2,010 Metric tonnes per day of Low Pour Fuel Oil and 10 metric tonnes per day of Sulphur.

He also explained that the lubes plant of the refinery has the capacity to process 50,000 barrels per stream day of Parafin base foreign crude to produce 74 metric tonnes of waxes; 657 metric tonnes of base oil and 1,796 metric tonnes of asphalt per day.

Engr Mohammed further told the experienced hires that the Lab Plant of the refinery received feedstock in the form of kero from the lube plant and reformate, from the fuels plant to be able to produce linear Alleyh Benzene, Kero Solvent Benzene and Heavy Alkylate.

He said that due to lack of crude oil supply to the plant since last year, as a result of pipeline vandalism, the process units of the refinery had to be shutdown while the Turn Around Maintenance of the refinery was outstanding.

He however revealed that government was considering other sources of crude oil supply to the Kaduna Refinery to avoid being dependent on one channel of accessing the crude.

The Technical Assistant disclosed that the Kaduna Refinery had the only lubes and laboratory plants in West and Central Africa just as it is the largest Manufacturer of high quality tin and steel drums in Nigeria.
