LNG and Power

Division was borne out of the necessity to have one focal point for all the activities of interest to NNPC as a stakeholder in LNG projects Formation of the Division received the acceptance of NNPC GEC, followed by the presidential approval in April 1998

Expanded to LNG & Power Division in March 2005 to oversee NNPC / IOC’s involvements in power generation

VISION

To make Nigeria the leading LNG producing nation in the  World and to promote sufficiency in the domestic power supply

MISSION

Monitoring the commercialization of Nigeria’s    abundant natural gas reserves and gas flaring reduction by promoting viable LNG projects, power plants with NNPC involvement and associated gas projects for the benefit of Nigerians and other stakeholders

Objectives

  • To monitor and expedite the commercialization and the development of Natural Gas for Domestic and Export markets
  • To protect the Federal Government interest in LNG & IPP ventures
  • To monitor and support all LNG and Independent Power Plants (IPP) ventures
  • To support NNPC Human Resource capacity building
  • To work towards achieving and sustaining “zero” flaring of Associated Gas
  • Promote Nigerian Content initiative

Overview of divisional functions

  • Represent NNPC’s Shareholding on LNG and IPP ventures
  • Co-ordinate and ensure integration of Government / NNPC strategic interests in all LNG & IPP ventures
  • Monitor performance of all LNG & JV IPP businesses
  • Promote new LNG and IPP projects
  • Develop NNPC Human Resource capability through Secondment to LNG & Power ventures
  • Administer Secondees’ Services
