The GED E&T welcomed the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Engr. Andy Yakubu, all GEDs and the Company Secretary to the commissioning of NNPC’s state of the art Data centre. Afterwards, the GM ISD, Mr Don Aholu explained that NNPC’s Data centre was built with best of breed technologies making it one of a kind in Nigeria.
He said that delivery of the Data Centre is one of the initiatives that IT has successfully undertaken within the past two and half years in a deliberate attempt to transform NNPC to a world class organization. He explained that the Data Centre was built to host the most demanding and mission critical enterprise and line of business systems and solutions.
He further reiterated that hosting of NNPC mission critical business solutions in the Data Centre instead of with third parties is expected to yield savings of $5 million dollars per annum for the corporation. He said that to ensure availability of business systems 24/7, the Data centre will be supported by a state of the art Business Continuity centre that is nearing completion.
He also mentioned that 5 model Server Rooms at PPMC, KRPC, PHRC, IDSL and WRPC at different stages of completion will also provide additional support, thus guaranteeing accessibility to IT resources at all times. Additionally, he also said that IT has emplaced comprehensive and structured local area network infrastructure at 95% of NNPC locations nationwide including the three (3) refineries. He further explained that thirteen (13) key NNPC SBUs/CSUs have been interconnected with the CHQ Network via a robust Wide Area Network infrastructure; while works are on-going to optimise interconnectivity for the remaining SBUs (WRPC and NGC).
He listed IT’s achievements which include a robust SAP Infrastructure to support the on-going SAP deployment effort, one of the largest corporate email ecosystems in the country, a cost effective enterprise video conferencing and office collaboration solution, and NNPC WorkPlace. He also listed on-going projects that will provide immense benefit to the corporation – the on-going Enterprise Content Management project aimed at making NNPC a paperless organization; the combined effort with CP&S to emplace an automated Enterprise Project Management Solution using the PSAP methodology, and the on-going deployment of the Enterprise Business Intelligence Solution. He said that these projects are all designed to further provide NNPC with the capacity and capabilities to effectively respond to the dynamics of the competitive oil and gas industry.
