NNPC GMD Urges Youth to Shun Social Vices |

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Engr. Andrew Yakubu, has called on Nigerian youth to imbibe a high standard of personal discipline, hard work and honesty to equip them for their roles as leaders of tomorrow.
The NNPC boss gave this charge at a character development workshop organized for secondary school students in the Federal Capital Territory at the Government Secondary School, Garki, Abuja.
The GMD who was represented at the event by Mr. Fidel Pepple of the Group Public Affairs Division of NNPC described the youth as the greatest asset, the hope for the future and the only currency Nigeria has to redeem its past.
“As young people who are the leaders of tomorrow, you must shun vices such as examination malpractices, cultism, use of hard drugs and abuse of other substances which is inimical to your health and the well being of our society. You must imbibe the virtues of transparency, accountability and truthfulness in all your endeavours. The call for moral rectitude must be re-echoed in every forum if you must compete with the best of the best in the global community. As young people, you must develop a sense of morality, ethics and character in a world full of conflicts,” he advised the students.
He said the corporation was committed to investing in the development of the younger generation and pledged to collaborate with the private sector and other agencies of government to bring about a re-orientation in the attitude and conduct of the youth and to create opportunities for their growth and development through structured initiatives.
“The essence of workshops like this therefore is to begin to put the right foundations in place so that you can blossom and become responsible, well-balanced adults who will contribute their quota to the transformational development of our great country. Without a collective investment in tomorrow's leaders our national aspiration to be counted among the top 20 economies of the world by year 2020 will be a mere pipe-dream,” he said.
He urged the students to develop an open mind and acquire the mind of a global citizen as it will help them fit easily into whatever role providence may thrust upon them as they navigate their way through life.
