
The Chairman of Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Engineer Andy Yakubu says the company has launched its 100 per cent seismic crew last year and has deployed it in its Chad Basin project. ``This strategy will assist IDSL to be firmly established as one of the major onshore/offshore 3D/4D seismic acquisition and processing, petroleum engineering as well as data storage services provider to Exploration and Production (E&P) companies,’’ the Chairman said. Engineer Yakubu who is also Group Executive Director Exploration and Production in NNPC, said the company had made substantial progress in data acquisition in the Chad basin. The Chairman who spoke on the sidelines of the 18th and 19th Annual General Meeting of the company, noted that IDSL will soon move into other inland basins as well as expand its other territories in the Niger Delta. Also speaking the Managing Director of the company Dr. Joseph Dawha said the nation’s quest to find oil in the Chad Basin is recording a considerable level of progress. “The project is going well as planned and right now we have acquired more than 1, 000 sq. km of seismic data which is substantial,’’ the noted. According to him the project which will be in six phases is at the fourth phase at the moment and is to acquire 3, 000 sq km in the area. The MD, who observed that data acquisition and analysis were still going on, noted that the job is expected to be completed by the end of next year (2012). According to him, the company had overcome almost all the hazards that came its way. “The security situation in Borno State notwithstanding, we have been able to cope with the challenges,” he stated. The IDSL was established in 1988 as a technology-driven subsidiary company of NNPC charged with the responsibility to operate geophysical, geological, reservoir engineering and data management services in the upstream sector of the nation’s oil and gas industry.
